crazy ball – Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand spoke about the race for the Premier League title in the 2022/2023 season and believed that the situation might not change too much from last season.
Manchester City and Liverpool battled it out for the Premier League title last season until the final weekend, with Pep Guardiola’s men eventually defending their title by just one point.
Both teams have now made several changes, including the inclusion of Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips in the squad. The citizens, while Jurgen Klopp replaced Sadio Mane with Darwin Nunez.
In fact, rival teams also continue to strengthen their squad. Chelsea, who finished third last season, managed to sign Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, while Tottenham Hotspur, who improved rapidly under Antonio Conte last season, managed to bring in six new players, including Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.
Arsenal, who finished fifth, also made big transfers, including the arrivals of City duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, while Manchester United are gearing up for a new era under Erik ten Hag who brought in Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez their team.
It’s just that Rio Ferdinand, as the news quoted via FootballJOE, admits he is pessimistic that the duopoly of Manchester City and Liverpool can be broken by their rivals this season, and says he remains confident the title race will still come down to just two horse races.
He said: “Liverpool had a chance. Both of them (Liverpool and City). No other team comes close to these two, I don’t think so. I still think there are six, eight points between second and third. I think Liverpool and City will be a two horse race. I think City will win it in the end.”
