crazy ball – Barcelona have long wanted to get rid of their academy dropout, Riqui Puig, but have never succeeded. In the transfer market this summer, the young midfielder was reported to be leaving for MLS club LA Galaxy.
Riqui Puig is even a step away from ending his Camp Nou nightmare as the Galaxy have reached an agreement to sign the Spanish midfielder.
According to the reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, as reported by The Hard Tackle, Puig soon ended his association with Barca, who agreed a transfer deal with the MLS club. Meanwhile, Puig has also verbally agreed to his move, with both clubs currently finalizing some details of his contract.
Riqui Puig has been dramatically cut from the Barcelona squad he played for as a boy, having previously broken into the Blaugrana’s first team a few years ago. The 22-year-old midfielder even became one of the mainstays in Barcelona’s main team when the Catalan club was still under Quique Setien – who regularly played him in many matches.
However, Puig has been left out since Ronald Koeman took over as head coach at Barcelona ahead of the 2020/21 season. Then Puig also failed to revive his career under Xavi Hernandez, where he accumulated just 544 minutes in 18 games in the 2021/22 season.
The presence of Pablo Gavi and Nico Gonzalez had a huge impact on the continuity of Puig’s career at Barcelona, / this summer.
Speculation also continues to color Puig’s career at the Camo Nou, and most recently it was reported that he is a surplus of players at the club that finished in second place last season. Puig has now found a new club and is ready to show his skills in American football.
LA Galaxy showed interest in the midfielder last week, before the club finally entered the queue for his signature. Puig is also expected to join the MLS giants this week.
However, it appears that Puig’s position at the club is still uncertain as the Galaxy are reportedly not going to make Puig a mainstay as there are already Javier Hernandez, Douglas Costa and Kevin Cabral in the same position.
The Galaxy immediately moved quickly to secure Puig’s services, with Romano claiming to have reached an agreement with Barca in this transfer window. Romano also claimed that both clubs just needed to finalize some details of his contract before announcing the transfer.
Puig, who has agreed to move to LA Galaxy, is just hoping that he can revive his football career after having to fight extra hard to secure a place in the Barca first team several years ago.
