dance moms star JoJo Siwa has clarified the comments she made about disliking the word “lesbian” after major comments online.
Addressing her fans on TikTok, the 19-year-old explained that she’s not “ashamed” of the term, but just doesn’t like the sound. you can watch the video above.
“I just want to make something very clear, I never said ‘lesbian’ is a dirty word and I would never say it’s a dirty word because it isn’t,” she says.

“It’s especially not a word I’m ashamed to say or identify myself with in any way.”
The problem arose after Siwa told: Yahoo! To live she didn’t like to use the term to refer to her own sexuality.
In her video, Siwa explains that this is simply because she doesn’t like how “lesbian” sounds phonetically, just as some people don’t like the sound of the word “moist.”
“I don’t hate the word lesbian… whenever someone talks to me, I just say I’m gay,” she explains, adding: “It’s not the word that comes off my tongue, if that feeling.”

Celebrated as a “gay icon” Siwa has a massive following on TikTok, with over 42.5 million followers.
She rose to fame as a young dancer on dance momsbefore launching her incredibly popular YouTube channel It’s JoJo Siwa and a singing career that has seen her tour internationally, including in Australia.
She came out publicly as gay in January 2021.
