Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Responds to Fan Support for His First DC Extended Universe Movie, DC League of Super Pets. Prior to his highly anticipated debut as Black Adam, Johnson voices Superman’s dog, Krypto, in the new Warner Bros./DC animated film, DC League of Super Pets, which hit theaters on July 29. In addition to Johnson, the star-studded cast includes Kevin Hart as Ace, Keanu Reeves as Batman, John Krasinski as Superman, Kate McKinnon as the guinea pig Lulu, and Marc Maron as Lex Luthor. Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne and Diego Luna fill out the rest of the titular League.
Directors Jared Stern and Sam Levine’s DC League of Super Pets is inspired by the DC Comics title Legion of Super Petswhich originally appeared in Adventure Comics #293 in February 1962. The film follows Krypto the Super-Dog, Ace the Bat-Hound and their team of super animals on a mission to save Superman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League. Facilitated by its animated character, DC League of Super Pets‘ storyline was considered charming, family fun, and the response to it was largely positive.
Johnson recently took to his official social media and thanked all the families who saw it DC League of Super Pets this weekend. According to CinemaScore, audiences gave the film an A rating, one of the few As The Rock claims to have received in its lifetime. “THANK YOU to all the families and so glad you loved our #SuperPetshe wrote. On top of CinemaScore’s A-, DC League of Super Pets had a box office debut of $23 million, topping Jordan Peele’s no and Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder. Although it took first place, it underperformed Pixar’s light year At the register. However, it looks like those who ventured out this weekend to see Krypto and his group of heroic pets had a good time, which bodes well for DC League of Super Pets‘ future. The film also currently has 72% critics and 89% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Word of mouth may help DC League of Super Pets find a wider audience. In terms of 2022 superhero movies, it has earned the best CinemaScore yet, tied only to DC’s The batter. That is an impressive achievement.
While DC League of Super Pets is aimed at a younger crowd, Johnson’s next DC outing, Black Adam, would exhibit the audacity of his titular character. Ironically, Johnson has repeatedly expressed a desire for his DC antihero to go head-to-head with Henry Cavill’s Superman, even after playing the Man of Steel’s dog. Among DC League of Super Pets and Black AdamJohnson really works at both ends of the superhero spectrum, and it’ll be interesting to see which movie is a bigger hit with audiences when all is said and done. if DC League of Super PetsA and rocky box office numbers are an indication, he has an above average start.
