WWhen it comes to Diamond-selling pop superstar Usher, it wouldn’t be far off to describe him as a Renaissance man. Musically relevant for nearly 30 years, his dancing skills are literally second only to the late Michael Jackson himself. And, well, have you seen this guy skate?!

He will then try his luck as executive producer of a new series entitled ‘Storyville’, based on the culture of madams and brothels during the jazz era.

As Variety reports, the show is currently in development at Starlings Television, with Usher teaming up with “Rome” creators Bill Macdonald and “Wild Hogs” director Walt Becker. “Storyville” will depict the lives of five brothel ladies trying their best to preserve New Orleans’ red-light district of the 1920s.

While the real Storyville no longer exists, his impression on New Orleans remains palpable. According to the J Collections blog, nearby May Baily’s Place pays tribute to the era every Friday and Saturday night.

More on the production details behind “Storyville” below, via Variety:

“Storyville is an epic story fueled by the origins of the sound that inspired my career — a story that touches the nerve of today’s social and cultural relevance,” Usher said in a statement.

Starlings TV President/EP Chris Philip and CEO Karine Martin will also executive produce the series with Becker, Macdonald, Usher and Marcus Morton, with whom they initially developed the project.

“Usher’s massive global appeal, musical and acting genius will propell this unique and compelling original series into a must-see around the world,” said Philip. “His invaluable creative and musical contributions to ‘Storyville’ fulfill our vision to contrast the gritty, sometimes brutal sides of New Orleans life with a beautiful, diverse and defining new art form.”

Usher is also quite a talented actor, having appeared in films such as the 1998 horror thriller “The Faculty”, a starring role with the 2005 film “In The Mix” and most recently playing himself in the critically acclaimed 2019 film “Hustlers”. to name a few.

It has yet to be determined whether Usher will also star or guest star in the series, but Philip’s comment about the 8701 singer’s “acting genius” hints at a cameo appearance in one form or another. We can’t wait to see it!
