crazy ball – Manchester United are unlikely to be too bothered by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure as manager Erik ten Hag already has Anthony Martial to rely on next season, according to former Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton.
As reported Sky SportsThe 37-year-old forward returned to Manchester earlier this week to discuss his future with the club. He joined his agent Jorge Mendes.
Even some reports later said that Cristiano Ronaldo asked Manchester United to terminate his contract so that he was free to join a new club, while the latest news from SonSport claim that the Portugal forward is now asking the club to state their asking transfer price due to an offer finally coming in from one of their Premier League rivals.
However, Alan Hutton believes that should the former Real Madrid man eventually leave, Anthony Martial could take up the centre-forward role for United this season, with the French star set to impress during the pre-season tour. The Red Devils.
He told Football Insiders, “I think he will be one of the options. Obviously, Ten Hag will have to bring someone in if they let Ronaldo go, but he is a match for the player Ten Hag want. If you look at the players he’s brought in, they’re all young, hungry. [Marcus] Rashford, [Jadon] Sancho, all the type of players he wants like at Ajax. A young player that he can develop and shape into what he wants to be.”
“I know Martial has been there for a long time and he may not have lived up to the expectations that everyone expected, but maybe Ten Hag thought he could get the best out of him. I think it’s a good choice. He can definitely score goals. If Ronaldo wasn’t there, Martial would have played the role of the number nine forward.”
