crazy ball – Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly indicated that he hopes Frenkie de Jong is prepared to take a cut in his salary if he wants to stay at Camp Nou and refuse to be sold.
Blaugrana have been very active in this summer’s transfer window to bring in a number of high-profile players, but they have so far failed to match that with players leaving to balance their squad and finances.
There are several players who are expected to leave the club and one of the main names is Frenkie de Jong who is the subject of a serious transfer for Premier League giants Manchester United, only so far the transfer has not been successful.
The Dutch midfielder is actually seen as the asset most likely to be sold at a high price as he reduces the club’s salary burden from his high wage bill, only the former Ajax Amsterdam star has so far refused to leave.
It was recently reported that Barcelona will negotiate a cut in Frenkie de Jong’s salary of up to 40 percent if he intends to stay at the club and reject his sale to Manchester United this summer in the transfer window.
Speaking to the press in New York, president Joan Laporta has finally made a public call for the 25-year-old midfielder to take a pay cut, asking him to do his part as the club did theirs.
He said: “We will do everything possible for him to stay and we hope the player also does everything possible to stay. We should all try. We found that salaries increased by more than 40 percent. What is clear is that we have a new salary structure and all players have to adapt to it. The most important thing is that he wants to stay and we want him to stay.”
