Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows the titular Percy as he discovers his blood ties to the Greek gods of Olympus. He then must set out on a journey to rescue his mother from Hades and fight against monsters from Greek mythology along the way. Riordan is much more involved in the new edit, writes Percy Jackson and making a serial bible. He also took notes for the early footage of Percy Jackson, who already says it’s closer to his vision and the books themselves. Just in case fans were still worried about the latter, Riordan’s latest update offers some relief.

On his website it says Riordan mentions how the production of Percy Jackson is underway, and how it will include the Minotaur, which appears in the first book. He doesn’t mention when the Minotaur will appear in the season, but if true to the book, it will be the second monster that Percy encounters and the one that kidnaps his mother. Read Riordan’s quote below:

And now it’s back to TV land. I am looking forward to another exciting production day. I think today we will meet the Minotaur (who is also featured in The Divine Comedy, by the way).

The Minotaur plays an important role in The lightning thief, not only for kidnapping Percy’s mother and directing the story, but also for helping Percy realize his demigod destiny and set up his character arc. Featuring early footage of Camp Half-Blood, an important location in Percy Jackson, it’s likely the show will feature the Minotaur battle at a similar point in the story. Since Season 1 is a modest eight episodes, it’s likely the creators will try to narrow down the monster encounters to the most important in the story. The Minotaur moment could very well be coming in Percy Jackson Episode 1, which serves as the ultimate kick-off to the show’s mythology-driven action.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is already becoming a much more faithful and interesting adaptation than the 2010 film, which was criticized for having few similarities to the book. Disney still has their work cut out for them to adapt such a groundbreaking piece of modern YA fiction to the screen. Yet their first steps have been positive. With Riordan’s continued commitment and attention to detail, Percy Jackson and the Olympians was able to capture the humor and excitement of the books that the previous edit couldn’t.
