Kevin Hart Provides Rare Update On Will Smith Four Months After Oscars Incident

Nearly four months after the infamous blow at the 2022 Oscars, Kevin Hart has provided an update on Will Smith.

Hart, a close friend of Will Smith and Chris Rocktold Entertainment tonight that Smith has been working on self-development in the months since the incident.

“Will apologizes, you know. He’s obviously in a better space than what he was looking for,” Hart said as he answered questions during the premiere of DC League of Super Pets.

“People are people, and as people we sometimes make mistakes. So it’s not about talking about the past, it’s about recognizing the present and doing your best to move forward.”

“I still love him, I still love Chris, and you know, you can’t judge a person by one thing.”

At the 2022 Academy AwardsWill Smith walked onstage and punched presenter Chris Rock after the comedian joked about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia.

In a statement released days later, Smith admitted the punch line was “too much to bear” and that he was “reacting emotionally.”

That night, Smith won the Academy Award for Best Actor. Then, after days of debate over the joke and the appropriateness of the actor’s actions, Smith resigned from the Academy and was banned from participating in the Academy Awards for the next ten years.

He apologized to Rock shortly after the saga in a statement: “I want to apologize to you publicly, Chris.”

“I am ashamed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

In the aftermath of the incident, Smith has largely kept quiet. One of his projects, Emancipationwas supposed to come out this year, but is delayed until 2023.

Kevin Hart told Entertainment tonight he hopes Rock and Smith can resolve this incident in the future.

“I can only hope the two find a way to find some comfort in that and move past it. I just like good energy. I love seeing people be the best.”

“Ultimately, life goes on and people grow, so give them a chance to do that.”
