As has been reported on this website that Manchester United are on the verge of appointing Ralf Rangnick as interim manager on a short six-month contract until the end of the season.
So why was the former boss of FC Schalke and RB Leipzig who was appointed as interim boss at Manchester United? Of course it is not an arbitrary appointment because there will be tremendous quality that Ralf Rangnick will bring to Old Trafford. Here’s the explanation!
Pressing is the key
Manchester United’s players are known to be lazy and arrogant, with club legend Paul Scholes recently criticizing his former team’s winger as the Premier League’s laziest winger for not running back and helping defence.
Ralf Rangnick will not tolerate that, even in training, with the German coach known for his role in the evolution of ‘gegenpressing’ in this modern era. His entire tactical game plan is built on pressure applied on the pitch and at a high tempo.
Team Has Identity
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has built an excellent and competitive squad at Old Trafford, but tactically he is still a long way from being able to match Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.
At certain times, Manchester United often play without a clear identity of how they want to play football. Team success has come largely through individual brilliance, and there is no clear pattern of play.
Ralf Rangnick will give identity to the team by pressing and attacking tactics. As well as pressing, there will be high tempo counter-attacking football which has proven successful across Europe in recent years. Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho who have high speed can be very important in the composition of the German boss.
