It is said that because people who give zakat, their wealth will be cleaned of subhat assets. Because in essence, in every property owned by someone there is the right of another person in it, namely when it reaches the nishob for zakat.

A person who deliberately does not pay zakat, even though he can afford it, has in fact denied Allah and His Messenger. Sheikh Muhyiddin an-Nawawi in al-Majmu’ Sharh al-Muhadzdzab, vol. V, page 331, says:

الزكاة لوم دين الله الى جحد ا الله له لى الله ليه لم

It means: “The obligation of zakat is the religion of Allah ta’ala which is known for certain. Thus, the person who denies his obligations has in fact denied Allah the Exalted and denied the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-, so that he is punished as kufr..”

In addition, it is emphasized in the Qur’an that people who do not pay zakat, even though they can afford it, will be punished in the hereafter. Allah subhanahu wata’ala says:

الَّذِينَ الذَّهَبَ الْفِضَّةَ لَا ا لِ اللهِ بِعَذَابٍ لِيمٍ

It means: “And those who save gold and silver, and do not spend them in the way of Allah, then tell them, (that they will have) a painful torment.” (Surat At-Taubah: 34)

The danger of people who do not pay zakat, is also reiterated in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. Al-Ahnaf ibn Qais radiyallahu ‘anh said:

الَ: الْكَانِزِيْنَ ائِهِمْ اهِهِمْ

It means: “I was among the Quraysh. Then Abu Dharr passed by and said, ‘Convey the good news to those who keep their wealth (do not want to pay zakat) that their backs will be lit up out of their sides, and their necks will be cast out of their foreheads.‘.” (Narrated by Bukhari).

In another narration, it is mentioned that Abu Dharr radiyallahu ‘anh said:
