NBCNEWS – Thomas Tuchel has transformed a Chelsea squad that excels on all fronts since his appointment as coach in January 2021. The German has made the Blues one of the most difficult teams to face in Europe.

He led Chelsea to beat Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City on the way to winning the Champions League last season. This season, their stride continues. The most recent beat Juventus four goals without reply.

Chelsea have one of the most balanced and well-equipped squads in Europe, with many players competing for every position in the team. Despite this depth, Tuchel’s squad lacks a few players in certain positions who have special qualities.

Well, here is a list of 5 former Chelsea players that Tuchel wants to work with at Stamford Bridge:

1. Cesc Fabregas

In his heyday, few players knew how to break down a defense with a single pass like Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish midfielder joined Chelsea in the 2014/2015 season and helped the Blues win the Premier League title in his first season.

One thing Chelsea have sometimes lacked under Tuchel is a midfielder who can pass through defenses without breaking a sweat.

In Chelsea’s final title-winning season with Antonio Conte, Fabregas played the part to perfection. The Italian coach included Fabregas as a substitute on several occasions against teams playing in deep blocks.

2. Eden Hazard

There is no doubt that Eden Hazard made his name in Chelsea history as one of the best players ever signed. The Belgian gave Chelsea the best seven years of his career. He scored more than 100 goals and won several trophies.

Hazard helped Chelsea win a number of games and developed into one of the best players in the world at Stamford Bridge. Hazard played an important role for Chelsea in winning the 2014/2015 and 2016/2017 Premier League titles. He ended his career at Chelsea in the 2018/2019 season with an outstanding performance when the Europa League final victory resulted against Arsenal.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a return to Chelsea. Hazard is a player who has proven to have quality. But, Tuchel could put it to good use if Hazard is in his past performances.

3. Frank Lampard

One thing Chelsea lacked under Tuchel was goals from midfield. Apart from scoring penalties, the Chelsea midfielder has rarely added goals to the team consistently in recent seasons.

The Chelsea defender has scored 13 goals in the Premier League this season. While the midfielders only seven. Whereas, in the past, they had the best goalscoring midfielder in the Premier League, namely Frank Lampard. Lampard has always convinced his team to score double figures during his seasons at the club.

So, Tuchel would be happy to take on an accomplished player with plenty of goals guaranteed from midfield like Lampard if he could have a time machine.

4. John Terry

In Chelsea history, John Terry is the greatest defender ever to play in the Premier League. He is also the greatest Chelsea captain ever. He’s a player that Tuchel couldn’t turn down. Despite the Blues’ ruthlessness in defence, young Terry would jump right into this team.

The England defender is known to be great at reading the game and keeping the ball calm, something Tuchel has today at Chelsea with Thiago Silva. But, it is his exemplary leadership that makes him an asset to any team.

The centre-back is so good at leading his team that Chelsea coaches sometimes let him handle the dressing room during and after games.

Terry is an excellent motivator, apart from being a great defender. He always appears to score odd goals for his team when needed. He has a wide range of passes with both feet and the ability to get out of trouble, something Tuchel appreciates in his team.

5. Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba knows how to score important goals. Drogba scored nine goals in 10 finals for Chelsea and won eight of them.

The Ivory Coast striker is the first man to score in four FA Cup finals. Drogba also scored the equalizer in normal time and then the winning penalty in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

If the young Drogba played for Tuchel at this time, it was inevitable that Chelsea would become an even greater team. Apart from being sharp, Drigba also has the leadership and mentality of a winner. Drogba is still respected at Chelsea for his achievements with the club to this day.
