Raheem Sterling would rather move to Arsenal than join Barcelona

Barcelona have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City as the England international forward is reportedly the main transfer target for new manager Xavi Hernandez.

Report from Transfermarktweb mentions that Raheem Sterling would prefer to stay in the Premier League and join Arsenal rather than enter into Xavi Hernandez’s new project at Barcelona.

The 26-year-old striker impressed with England during Euro 2020 and was instrumental in bringing his country to the European Championship final for the first time in history before losing to Italy at Wembley.

However, it is a shame that the situation has been less than pleasant at club level, as he was not guaranteed a starter at Manchester City and this season he has made just three Premier League starts, limiting his contribution to just one goal.

While his contract expires in the summer of 2023, he reportedly has no intention of extending his deal due to not being guaranteed regular playing time from his manager Pep Guardiola, and making him consider leaving in 2022.

Barcelona have been the club most heavily linked with his services, with new manager Xavi Hernandez reportedly wanting the 26-year-old striker at Camp Nou.

But Arsenal are said to be now the most likely team to land Raheem Sterling, and the Catalan giants are also not in the financial shape to shell out big bucks in the transfer market any time soon.

Mikel Arteta, once assistant manager at Manchester City, is now interested in bringing the England international forward to the Emirates Stadium, especially with the Spanish boss looking to sell the club’s most expensive signing, Nicolas Pepe.
