It seems like Anthony Mackie hangs up his Captain America shield briefly to take the audience back to the seventh century. The MCU star reported has joined the project Desert Warrior, an epic film currently being produced at Neom and Tabuk in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mackie joins another lineup consisting of Aiysha Hart (Mogul Mowgli, Colette), Sharlto Copley (District 9), Ghassan Massoud (Kingdom of Heaven), Sami Bouajila (Hors-la-loi), Lamis Ammar (Sand Storm), Géza Röhrig (Son of Saul), and Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi).

Directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Mosquito Coast), Desert Warrior will be set in a time period when Arabia or the Arab region consisted of tribes that were hostile to each other, no country or rule in sight except for the fearsome Emperor Kisra (Kingsley). When a young princess (Hart) refuses to submit to Kisra, a battle erupts in such a way that changes the region forever. He only trusts his father (Massound) and a mysterious bandit (Mackie), whose skills are second to none, but he also keeps his own secrets, which may determine the fate of himself and the nobles he protects.

The project is Anthony Mackie’s first major film role since starring in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Disney+ series that saw him as the new Captain America, cementing his star status in the American public’s heart. Rupert Wyatt also co-wrote the script along with Erica Beeney, David Self, and Gary Ross. The film is produced by MBC Studios, JB Pictures, and AGC Studios.

MBC Studios, the Middle East division of the MBC Group, teamed up with US producers Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil) and Stuart Ford of AGC Studios to bring this period epic to the big-budget and arguably Saudi Arabia’s biggest-produced film to date. .
