NBCNEWS – There are several top Hollywood actors who have never played in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film. Tom Hanks is one of them. Status as the most famous actor in Hollywood, is not a guarantee that Marvel will hook him.
The 65-year-old actor has starred in a slew of blockbuster films including Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and the Toy Story series. But Tom Hanks wondered why superhero movies never offered him the role.
In the SmartLess Podcast, via Screenrant, Hanks thinks how Marvel wants him to be and even if they called now, he would avoid certain types of roles.
“Here’s the thing… First of all, they never called me once,” Hanks opened, emphasizing the word never.
Given that the MCU has embarked on its Phase 4 journey with Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, and Richard Madden, many fans may be wondering why actors like Keanu Reeves, Tom Hanks, or Leonardo DiCaprio have never been linked to the mega-franchise.
Hanks said he would avoid characters who weren’t as strong as superheroes. “And I think if one day they’re going to say, ‘Is there a way you’re going to consider playing defense minister?’ Ya know, a guy who comes in and says, ‘Please, help us Ultraman, we can’t survive!’” Hanks joked.
Hanks added that if Marvel really did call him, they would offer him for one of the roles that needed help from a superhero. While he may be interested, Hanks says he may not be able to play the role again.
