“The last number knocked Spain out at Euro 2020.”
NBCNEWS – Real Madrid is arguably the most famous club in world football, because they are always filled with world-class talent. They have also produced some great players over the years from their own academy.
Talents like Raul, Iker Casillas and Guti are graduates of the Los Blancos academy. They had a lot of future stars waiting for about 10 years ago.
With the release of FM 2012 more than a decade ago in October 2011, FM Scout selected six Real Madrid talents with the label ‘wonderkid’ Football Manager. We’ve seen how their careers develop 10 years in the real world.
#1 Rafael Varane
Three La Liga titles, four Champions League medals and a host of other victories at club level, and one World Cup winner make Varane considered one of the best defenders of his generation.
#2 Dani Carvajal
Despite being at the club since the age of 10, Carvajal was sold to Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 for 5 million euros (Rp 65 billion) after failing Jose Mourinho’s first-team squad.
However, Madrid included a buy-back clause in the contract. After one season, Carvajal proved himself in the Bundesliga, Madrid activated that clause and signed him back for 6.5 million pounds (Rp 105 billion).

The full-back has made 304 appearances for Los Blancos, including four Champions League wins. He is considered by some to be the best right-back in Madrid’s history.
#3 Sergio Canales
Despite being considered the next big thing 10 years ago, Canales failed to make much of an impression at the Bernabeu and left Madrid after one season.
The attacking midfielder remained in Spain, playing for Valencia and Real Sociedad before joining Real Betis in 2018.
Canales thrived at Sevilla, scoring 10 goals and six more in the 2020/2021 season. However, his injury prevented Canales from being included in the Spain squad at Euro 2020.
#4 Jese Rodriguez
Jese made 63 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos from 2011 to 2016. He made it before being sold to PSG in 2016 for 25 million euros (Rp 407 billion).
However, his plans were unsuccessful in the French capital. After loan spells at Las Palmas, Stoke, Real Betis and Sporting Lisbon, his contract with Madrid was terminated by mutual consent in December 2020.
The 28-year-old now plays for Segunda Division side Las Palmas.
#5 Raul de Tomas
Having only made one appearance for Madrid’s first team, it was quite clear that De Tomas needed a move in order to secure more regular playing time.
Tomas was then loaned to Benfica, but he didn’t score at all and was loaned to Rayo Vallecano. Espanyol finally made Tomas permanent for 20 million euros (Rp 325 billion).
De Tomas scored 23 goals in the Segunda Division and helped Espanyol bounce back. He also started the 2021/2022 season with seven goals in 12 games.
He has now made his international debut for Spain in Spain’s World Cup qualifier against Greece in November 2021.
#6 Alvaro Morata
Breaking through the first team under Mourinho, the striker impressed and started before being sold to Juventus by Carlo Ancelotti in 2014.
However, 27 goals during his two seasons in Italy saw Madrid activate their buy-back clause and bring Morata back to the Bernabeu. His 20 goals in the 2016/2017 season helped the club win their first La Liga and Champions League double since 1958.
However, Morata was sold to Chelsea for 60 million pounds (Rp 1.1 trillion). Unfortunately, Morata endured the Chelsea striker’s curse and ended his time in England.

Having played at Atletico Madrid and returned to Juventus, the 29-year-old has had a rough ride at the Euros this summer. He missed a crucial penalty in the semi-final defeat against Italy.
