Sugeng also questioned the security system made by Pertamina at a number of oil refineries.

Supposedly if the reason the oil refinery caught fire was because it was hit by lightning as stated by Pertamina, the government should overhaul the security system.

Moreover, it is not impossible that in a number of Pertamina’s oil refineries, the safety systems and parameters used are still of the old standard.

Even though the weather, climate, and natural conditions in Indonesia are always changing, not to mention the added impact of global warming.

In response to this, said Sugeng, Pertamina should be able to take a stand by updating the existing security system at the oil refinery.

In addition, there is also the possibility of an oil refinery being burned as a result of sabotage by external parties.

“For this case, we ask for a forensic investigation, lest there is also an element of sabotage. The possibility exists, either directly or indirectly. The second is from the security system itself, that’s why we ask Pertamina to evaluate, totally audit the security system,” said Sugeng at the MI Editorial event, quoted by Hops.id on Monday, November 15, 2021.

“This (fire) happens repeatedly, indicating that our hazard mitigation is still weak, especially in terms of security,” he continued.

Furthermore, his party will thoroughly investigate and find out the cause of the fire at the Balongan and Cilacap refineries.

Sugeng confirmed that he would coordinate with Commission III of the DPR to hold a hearing.

In this case, the DPR also plans to summon the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

“If this matter is of course a police matter, therefore our steps in the DPR will soon be a hearing, cross-commission because the police commission is in commission III. We will coordinate with Commission III so that later, together with the National Police Chief, we will hear an explanation from the police investigation regarding this fire,” said Sugeng.

In addition, the DPR will also summon a number of Pertamina’s ranks to explain further about the results of the fire investigation and the security system at the oil refinery.

“We also ask for a more detailed explanation from Pertamina, we also want to hear about the fire incident at the Balongan refinery some time ago and of course the recent incident at the Cilacap refinery,” he added.
